Department of Special Services Minimize

The Natchez-Adams School District ensures that all “students are prepared to continue their education and to successfully enter the work place as productive, responsible citizens,” including those with disabilities. In accordance with the district’s mission, the Department of Special Services envisions a school system where all students, families, schools, and community members share the motivation, knowledge, and skills to work together to ensure that all children with disabilities are learning, progressing, and preparing for their place in our global community.

The Department of Special Services is required to provide free, appropriate public education to eligible children, ages 3-21 years old, in cooperation with parents and other agencies under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act.
The State of Mississippi requires that all students referred for Special Education Services must first go through the Teacher Support Team process. This means that strategies in the regular education setting must be considered and documented before referral to Special Education. Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact their child’s home school or the Department of Special Services at (601) 445-2995 for more information if they suspect that their child has a disability.
